the band wagon as far as using the Amissville survey to support a point of view concerning the development of a potential golf course in Amissville. I rec- ' ognize that an editorial is an appropriate avenue of expression for the editor of a newspaper; however, I do not believe that it is neither correct for an editor to offer a biased opinion based on a survey for which one does not have proof of accuracy, nor is it correct to make accusations as to the purpose and intent of a . proposed golf course in Amissville.
The Dixon family likely has income in mind when planning on a new use for their agricultural property, but so does everyone who starts a business. Few of us can afford to work for free or throw away our assets.
Farmland only becomes profitable when it is sold or the agricultural activity conducted on it intensifies. The development of a golf course would keep this large tract of land in an agricultural use, it would bring job opportunities to our area, and it would preserve the green areas of Rappahannock County. Are these bad things?
Please rethink your position on development in the Amissville area. Without some catastrophic event, the population in our area will continue to increase and provisions will need to be made to enable the community to grow.
Residents may certainly express their views and should be encouraged to do so, but not dictate what happens to each agricultural or commercial property as it comes up for sale or development. What happened to free enterprise?
