Rappahannock News Photo/Barbara C Wayland Sixty-eight graduates participated in the 52nd annual commencement exercises on Saturday morning at Rappahannock County High School. Superintendent Dr. David Gangel spoke briefly to the seniors and stressed to them "you can do anything you want to do, commit to it and you can do it." Dr. Gangel will leave our school system at the end of this month and will assume the Superintendent's position for Amelia County Public Schools on July 1. Col. Nels A. Parson of Washington was the keynote speaker for graduation and related a story to the seniors of Winston Churchill's speech to a graduating class. According to Col. Parson, "Mr. Churchill stood behind the podium, stared at the class for a while and said: "Never give up, never, never, never give up" and sat down. The speech was over." However, Col Parson's speech was a little longer to our 2002 graduates and unfortunately space will not permit us to run the entire speech but it was certainly an inspiration to the parents, friends and family members of the graduating class.
