Demolition Derby set
Applications are now being accepted for the Demolition Derby to be held Saturday, Aug. 24 during the Page Fair in Luray. Drivers must be 21 years of age. Cars may include any American made stock, hardtop automobile or station wagon Official entry blanks are available by calling 743-4949. Registration is guaranteed to the first 60 applicants. The fair runs from Aug. 18 through Aug. 24.
Red Cross Golf Tournament set
The Culpeper-Madison Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting a Golf Tournament at the Culpeper Country Club on Monday, July 15. Featuring a “Drive for the Chrysler • Hole-ln-One contest, this tournament offers golfers the opportunity to win a shiny new car. Continental breakfast begins at 7:30, followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The $75 fee covers breakfast, lunch, cart and greens fee.

SNP sponsors butterfly count
If butterflies make your heart flutter, you might enjoy taking part in the sixth annual Shenandoah National Park-Luray Area Butterfly Count on Sunday, July 7. The rain date is July 14 Volunteers will spend the day identifying and counting butterflies within a 15-mile circle centered on Hershberger Hill, between Stanley and Luray in Page County.
The count is sponsored by the park, the Shenandoah National Park Association, and the North American Butterfly Association (NABA). To volunteer for the butterfly count, call compiler Mara Meisel at 999-3282 before June 22.
