pristine fishing stream rented out to a fly fishing group. Two hundred acres are now in pasture and hay, and 25 acres has been rented to Waterpenny Farm to grow vegetables.
In its new incarnation as a sustainable grass and hardwood farm, Cliff is putting an emphasis on restoring all the old buildings and barns on the property, which will soon be listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
He hopes to have a good horse facility for training draft horses.
Already he has a wonderfully trained pair of Belgian draft horses to assist in the low impact harvesting of trees on the farm.
The next general membership meeting of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Association will be at 4 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 4, at Gray Armistead’s farm north of Sperryville.
In addition to the usual fun and friendly socializing and a tour of Gray’s farm, the Summer RFA meeting will feature a special cattle program with guest speakers.
All Rappahannock residents and landowners interested in supporting agriculture in our county are encouraged to attend and become RFA members.
