The next afternoon, Mr. Cole gave Alex a private lesson in his Holiday Inn hotel room and invited him to accompany him on stage the next night as well.
Alex, who plays both alto and soprano saxophone, has come a long way from the days when his mother would stuff socks and nerf balls into the bell of his saxophone to auiet the noise.
