MOURNING
OVER LOSS
Because our society tends to avoid and even deny death, many mourners stifle public displays of emotion. Doing so undervalues the mourning as a means to begin healing. With this in mind, mourners are encouraged to permit themselves to mourn. Postponing a confrontation with your feelings by filling each day with activities intended to divert attention away from your pain will only delay and compound the grief reaction. Remember that, when one suffers a great loss, it is a sign of strength, not weakness, to be able to express your emotions. For some, the rituals of mourning, whether it be sitting shiva, attending a wake, or holding a memorial service, may provide an important beginning to the grieving process.
Mourning is essential to healing and yet so often our culture inhibits displays of grief. At the MOSER FUNERAL HOME, we understand the awkwardness that can accompany strong emotion, but we are comfortable with grief and its expression. We also understand the importance of the appropriate rituals and can offer support. We’re at 233 Broadview Avenue, Warrenton. Call 347-3431.
