Ahead
Thinking ahead can help you make informed thoughtful decisions about funeral arrangements. It allows you to choose the specific items you want and need and also spares your survivors the stress of making these decisions under the pressure of time and strong emotions. When pre-planning, put your preferences in writing and give copies to family members and your attorney. Also be sure to keep a copy in a readily accessible place. Do not designate your preferences in your will, which is often not found or read until after the funeral. Also avoid putting the only copy of your preferences in a safety deposit box, which precludes making arrangements on a weekend or holiday.
