Later, deputies interviewed the cabin owner’s 30-year-old son. The man said he had shot up the cabin because his father had refused to read two novels he wrote.
The father, who was visiting Beverly Hills, Cal., declined to prosecute his son. He told the sheriff his son had been treated for emotional difficulties.

The boys’ victory over Stonewall is the first in two years. Running against a powerful Page County squad (106 points) and a strong RandolphMacon Academy team (76 points), the Panthers overcame Stonewall Jackson for thirdplace in the meet.
Eric Phillips (9 points) led the Panthers with a third-place finish in the 200m dash (25.23 sec.) and fourth-place finishes in the 100m dash (12.54 sec.), long jump (IT 8”) and triple jump (35’61/2”).
Corey Voorhies (7 points) finished second (109’ 1”) and third (38’ 10 1/2”) in the discus and shot put, respectively.
Nathan Welch (5 points) finished third in the 110m high hurdles (20.77 sec.) and placed fourth in the high jump (5’ 4”). Kevin Martin placed third in the 3200m run with a time of 11:56 min.
The boys’ team were scheduled to travel to Warren County on March 31 for their second quad meet (Warren County, Loudoun Valley and Strasburg high schools).
