Virginia D. Smith. Mrs. Scoggin has been the deputy commissioner for eight years, and says she feels qualified to handle the position with all this experience. She fives at Washington with her husband Harold. They have one son, Bill, who is a student at Virginia Ttech. On Saturday, April 7, the fourth running of the Old Dominion Point-to-Point at Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Eastham’s Ben Venue Farm will take place. The course is located 16 miles west of Warrenton on Route 211.

At an orchard meeting, sponsored by the Rappahannock County Extension Service at Mountain Green Farm outside Washington last Tuesday, Ross Byers, a professor of horticulture with the Virginia Ttech fruit research center in Winchester, assessed the damage to Alex Sharp’s nectarine crop, and found that only two to three percent of the buds are alive. This is due to the extreme cold this past winter. Eight Girl Scouts were presented with their Silver Awards in a ceremony at the elementary school today. For most of them this was the culmination of three years work. Sally Havstad, Lelo Wolfe, Nina Norman and Cindy Andreoni worked with the girls for the past four years helping them achieve the Silver Award. Now four of the girls, Holly GangeL, Kylene Wolfe, Fran Overdorf and Dawn Havstad embarked on the project of earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. At last Thursday’s meeting the Library Board had to adjust its budget for the coming year because the General Assembly appropriated $1,753 less for the library than the board thought the county would get when the budget was adopted. The board adopted “in principle” a landscape design prepared by Warrenton landscape architect Meade Palmer for the entrance. Member Mary Jamieson presented a drawing showing how the entrance would look and members were very enthusiastic, but concerned about the cost.
