The exhibit at the Corcoran includes not only 70 of these unique quilts, but also photos of Gees Bend from the 1930s and 1940s, stories about the quilts from their creators, and a short film that records the contemporary quilters of the community, singing and sewing together as their mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers have done before them.
For those who would like to experience the textures and colors of the quilts themselves, the RAAC-on-tour bus will leave at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 10 for a trip to the Corcoran.
