Miss Susie Jenkins of SperryviUe was the winner in the annual Apple Pie Baking Contest held March 20 at Rappahannock County High School. Miss Jenkins is a ninth grade student. Other contestants in the local bake off were Misses Merle Dulaney, Alice Jenkins, Joyce Dodson and Ann Jenkins.Second place went to Miss Joyce Dodson, Amissville and Ann Jenkins, Washington, won third place. The Virginia Angus Association announces that the Annual Spring Cattleman’s Sale will feature 437 head of registered and commercial Angus. This sale is held as a semi-annual event to supply pure bred and commercial Angus breeders with replacement cattle of native Virginia breeding. Mrs. Wallace Russell was hostess to the Flint Hill Bridge Club on Monday night. Those present were Mrs. Thomas Eastham, Mrs. Emory Russell, Mrs. Lock Buford, Mrs. Joel JenkinsJMrs. Frank Spalding, Mrs. W.O. Gilbert of Warrenton, Mrs. Paul Miller, Mrs. James Bradford, Jr., Mrs. G.W. Smith, Jr. Mrs John S. Browning, Mrs. James Massie and Mrs. W-A. Moore, Jr. Prizes were awarded to the last four named. .

Architect Ed McClintock unveiled capital outlay proposals for expansion of the elementary and high schools and construction of new centred offices and a school bus garage at Monday’s special school board meeting. Cost of the total package amounts to approximately $1,400,000. With the exception of Capital Outlay Committee Chairman Paul Nichols, however, the board members balked at endorsing any of the plans presented by McClintock.
