TRADITIONS While the beliefs and practices accorded to the dead differ somewhat between cultures, religions, and eras, they are also fundamentally similar. The ancient Egyptians were so focused on funerals and death that some pharaohs spent their entire lives preparing for their burials. The pyramids are ancient tombs commemorating the souls of their leaders. The ancient Egyptians held incredible strong beliefs in an afterlife , so much so that the mummification process of a body could take up to seventy days to complete, after which the body was wrapped in fine linen and placed in a sarcophagus. To some extent, little has changed since then, as we prepare our dead burial, commemorate their lives, and place them in cemeteries undomonuments.
