The theme for Vacation Bible School, held at Forest Grove recently, was Japan. The decorations, with some imagination, made you feel you were in Tbkyo. It was a great learning experience for the children.

We were glad to hear that Sam Thompson has returned home from the hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery. We are also glad to see Pat Ashley and Ellen Gore recovering nicely from their illnesses.

Viewtown history

, Concerning some Viewtown history, my husband Danny has found more first- hand accounts about the Civil War engagement at Battle Mountain, near Viewtown.

A search on the Internet enabled him to find yet another book about George Custer. It mentions the Battle Mountain engagement in detail. The book, “Custer And His Wolverines” by Edward G. Longacre, is the result of over 20 years research on Custer’s Michigan Regiments. Here are some excerpts about the engagement:

“ Having lost 30 men killed, wounded, (including Captain Storrs of the Sixth), and missing, Custer and Gray led the Survivors back to Amissville, where they encamped.” Source
