Bobwhite quail, right near their house on Fodderstack Road. I am adding a few species seen from here on Long Mountain Road: the House Wren, the Eastern Kingbird, and the Chimney Swift. This gives us a total bird count for the county through June of 104 species.
A few scattered observations have come in for the Scarlet Tanager. We are fortunate to have a few Tanager families here on Long Mountain, visiting our mulberry trees. We are trying to fine-tune the color of the Tanager—is it red-orange or orange-red? Either way, it is a shy but strikingly colorful bird.
Enjoy the summer months. The babies will be getting their adult colors soon for their flight south.
