The original Belle Meade Farm from whence1 all these market products now come was created by proprietors, educator Susan Hoffman and biologist Mike Biniek, 15 years ago. The farm specializes in pastured livestock raised without hormones or antibiotics, including cows, pigs, chickens, laying hens, and turkeys/geese (in season), and vegetables grown without chemical pesticides. This is in addition to the farm’s ongoing collection of horses, dogs, cats, and an abundance of wildlife on 138 beautiful acres near Shenandoah National Park,
At Belle Meade Farm, all market animal products are free-range and beef is grassfed. According to Mike Biniek, “We practice managementintensive rotational grazing in which our herd of cattle rotates through pastures on a daily basis.”
In its second academic year, Belle Meade School offers a highly successful program of “green themed” educational studies for 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades. The school reaches out with a unique study program that integrates academic work.
