The town also has submitted an application for an additional $367,500 to the Department of Environmental Quality under the Virginia Clean Water Revolving Loan Fund, Special Federal Stimulus Application. The money would be used to begin Phase II of the wastewater project immediately pending council approval should funds be awarded, said Laura Dodd, the town administrative assistant.
In addition, the town will be applying for stimulus money from the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Drinking Water to replace old pipes and meters in the town, and to review engineering proposals for a new well. - Mayor Eugene Leggett and council member John Sullivan also will be meeting with the U.S. Department of Agriculture about additional matching funds for water system projects.
