After a two-year hiatus following the closing of Nature’s Food and Cafe, Rae Gaedke, redeveloped her natural food concept, and in 1985, opened the first Mountainside Market on Gay Street. Her marriage and partnership with Brian Ross led to the expanded Mountainside Market, established in 1995 on Route 211 in Sperryville. Rae now has a new venture in the works-Rae’s Place. Scheduled to open the week of March 29, Rae’s Place will provide sustenance for the body in a space to feed the soul. Located on the basement level of the old element tary school in Sperryville, Rae’s offers light and airy space with the best fish-eye view of the Thornton River. The annual Ben Venue Kite Fly has been scheduled for April 17. Heidi Eastham is once again organizing the -4 event and volunteers are needed. The Town of Washington Planning Commission met on March 8 to review the final draft of the Town’s comprehensive plan. The commission completed the review of the first half of the document and will continue working on it on Monday, March 22. With the resignation of Carolyn Thornton, Chair Jeanne Butler said the commission is seeking a new member.
