The Wakefield Country Day School’s varsity girls’ basketball team won the first ever DAC Division II championship with a 34-23 victory over Fredericksburg Academy at Highland School ip Warren ton. -The two schools ended the regular season with identical 5-1 conference records and each advanced to the title game with semi-final wins.
While FA was disposing of Quantico, WCDS raced past RMA 35-22 to reach the championship. In the final, 8th grader Hailey Miller provided some much needed offense, scoring 13 points and along with fellow classmate Brooke Addison, (eight points and six rebounds) allowed the Owls to break from a precarious four- point halftime lead. Miller, along with senior guard Rachael Carrier each nailed a three-pointer in the opening minutes forcing the Falcons to abandon their zone defense and play manto-man.
