Aged Man Needs Home
A boarding home is needed far an elderly colored nian in',' the county.
This is a plea for help jn find-, ing a home for Joe. Joe sits and stares out the window; the spring sunshine has little meaning for him this year. A month ago. he wps able to cook his own meals* to plant a few 'things in his. garden, to putter around the yard. Today he is nearly helpless; his legs are paralysed with age; he can scarcely move. If a friend or. two hadn’t brought him food once " or twice a day, he. would have .starved long ago. His only com*, _panion most of the time ,is a - battle-scarred cat.
Joe welcomes someone, to talk with; he tells you about his long active life and admits that he made plenty of money in his day. Now h“ has nothing to shqw for it; he is 83, aa near as anybody can tell, and he has no kin people to care for him, no one at all who cares enough about him to take him in.
Joe isn’t unique; there are other old people in his predicament. One reason welfare departments were established was to help people like Joe. But while ■? - they are given enough money to pay for boarding care, they need help in locating hemes which will take in old people. Some counties have district homes for the aged; this county must rely on.-private homes for such care. Wont, some colored family .feel it their Christian duty to look after this poor man in kwuleclining years? Won’t somebody a good Samaritan and give Joe a home?
