An indication that the rising cost of Government and its accompanying tax burden have spared no segment of the economy is given in U.S. Department of Agriculture figures on Federal income taxes paid by farmers in recent years.

These fi|-ures sho wthat in 1941 the aggregate of such taxes paid by farmers was only $15 millions. The estimated figure for 1943 is $791 millions. The peak was in 1948 when the nation’s farmers paid nearly a billion dollars in Federal income taxes. Between 1941 and 1948, inclusive, net farm income rose from $9 to $22 billions.
