“The cost to the taxpayer of the farm price support program is a small pric^ indeed with which to buy off a depression. Empty pocketbooks on the farm do not tern wheels of industry in the city.” Dr. Sanders declared. The editor admitted that agriculture faces "a serious situation” so far as public relations are concerned. He said he could not recall a time when newspapers and other publications were so critical of agriculture.
However, he warned that farmers must not “price themselves* out of the world market.’’ If this is done, American agriculture will invite competition from cheaper foreign commodities and bring about the erection of tariff wall* which will prove a boomerang to our foreign trade, he continued.
Dr. Sanders said the depression of the early 1330’s was “farmbred” due to low agricultural income throughout the ’20’s. This could happen again, he said, if farm purchasing power is not maintained.
On the agenda for the convention were discussions of agricultural legislation now before Congress, plans for handling crops no wunder price supports, and the current pastiuTe program in its relation to reduction of acreage in row crops under federal control laws.

Beamer, vegetabl gardening socialist at V P I, says a starter solution on transplants will help them get started toward a healthy and productive life. _The starten solution should ha_ ia liquid form. You may be able to buy a special fertiliser that has been manufactured for this purpose. On'the container you’ll find directions on how to mix it with water and how much to use per plant. If your local dealer doe* not have any of these commercial materials you can make your own.
Home-made starter solution can be made by mixing one cupful (Vr pint) of good garden fertilizer in 12 quarts of water? Stir the mixture well and let it set for a few hours, and then it is ready to use. ' After you dig the hole, for the plant, pour in one cupful of the starter solution. Then set the plant, fill in the soil, and firm gently.
Beamer says that in dry, cold weather the solution may not give results, but other wise It is very satisfactory.
