The nation’s pantry is • well-* stocked with poultry and eggs— and Mrs. Housewife can get more of those commodities for her money than she could a year ago.

D. U. Livermore, poultry marketing specialist at VPI, says that storage holdings of poultry and eggs are about double those of a year ago, and that prices paid to farmers are down about 25 per cent.

On the nation’s shelves the price wise shopper will find over 1,000,000 cases of shell eggs, as compared to 500,000 cases last year. There also are 57 per cent more frozen eggs, and 100 per cent more dried eggs than a year ago.

Frozen poultry holdings amount to 212,000,000 pounds, compared to 108,000,000 pounds last year. The big item is_112,QOQtQOQ pounds of turkey—nearly three times last year’s supply. The turkey holdings are not excessive, Livermore claims, if consumers treat themselves to turkey this spring and summer. The wholesale price of turkey is down 25 per cent from last year.

A. C. Edwards Appointed

Forester For District

Acie C. Edwards of Scotland Neck, North Carolina, has been appointed as Forester attached to the Charlottesville District Office, D. G. Wilfong, Jr., District Forester announced this week. Mr. Edwards graduated from North Carolina State College, Division of Forestrty, in March, with a BS degree in Forestry. While at N. C. State Mr. Edwards was editor of “Pinetum,” Forestry Annual and president of the Forestry Club. He was also active in Xi Sigma Pi Forestry honorary and Alpha Zeta Agriculture honorary.

Mr. Edwards replaces Forester James B. Ebert who was recently transferred to the Portsmouth District. His duties will consist of forestry assistance to landowners in Rappahannock county and the 15 adjoining counties comprising the Charlottesville District.
