Fish Hogs Caught
On Saturday, May 6, Park Ran* gers apprehended two men, residents of Albemarle county, with 67 native trout in their possession. The fish were caught in the headwaters of one of the streams on the west side of Shenandoah National Park,, and ranged in size from 3 to 10 inches.
The National Park Service under its policy is attempting to develop sustained good sport fishing throughout the season. The fisheries biologist now working in the Park reports excellent conditions on the streams he has studied so far. However, willful disregard of laws and vandalism, such as were displayed by these two local residents, will defeat any pr<n gram devised.
The men were taken before the United States Commissioner who fined one of them $300 and the other $100. They were placed on two years' probation and their equipment was confiscated.
