Washington school won me queen by * large margin. The amount they presented along with their queen was .$110. Amissville was second with $89. • The queen was crowned on the front lawn of the school. A platform, decorated in white, with steps was in the center of the lawn. The queen’s court was made up of the following: little Charlotte Barbour of Washington; Lillian Morgan, Hazel Gray, and Otis Jordan of Amissville.
Amissville school presented the Virginia Reel by the first, second, and third grades of the school, (under the direction of Miss Fayes Jordan.. The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grades presented the George Washington Waltz, cnder the direction of Mrs. Jane Gray Banks. The4 boys were in full dress (tails) and the girls wore evening dresses. _
Flint Hill school presented the Maypole dance. This was directed by Mrs. Geneva Devann. The students were dressed in white ghorts and halter. After the Maypole was wrapped, it was unwrapped very successfully. • ..r.-:. . Scrabble school, under the direction of Mids Lillie Beamer, presented hte Russian Lit, and the country dance. The children were dressed in colorful Russian costumes of black and gold.
Washington school presented a Russian Cossack dance with boys only of the fifth and sixth grades. They were dressed in identical shirts and navy blue knee pants which were of colorful array in fulL James. A. Freeman was solo dancer. The girla presented the Grecian' dance. They wore white and violet satin draped on their bodies in Grecian style. Arvelon Jordan was solo dancer. The fourth, fifth, and sxith grades presented also a physical education demonstration. They were attired in white shorts and long-sleeved white cotton blouses with round collars. These three activities were directed by Mrs. Dorothy Wade Poster. Mrs. Callie R. Roberts presented the primary grades in s beautiful and colorful dance called “Awakening of the Flowers." The children wore bonnets of pastel colors, with matching dresses with full skirts and ruffles. All piano selections for the dances were played by Mrs. Dorothy W.
