Mayor William F. Moffett, Jr., was one of the six mayors of American towns named Washington, who was a guest of the National Capital! Sesquicentennial Commission in Washington, D.C., Wednesday, July 19. These six mayors, heads of towns ranging in population from 507 to 5880.
A picture of Mayor Moffett appeared in the Friday, July 21, edition of .Richmond Times-Dis• patch, along with that of Mayor J. H. Kaiser of Port Washington, Wisconsin, and Senator M. M. Neely of West Virginia,* who is also shown in the picture greeting the two mayors during part of the centennial observance.
Another picture of Mayor Moffett appeared with the other five Washington mayors, who were, guests of the commission, in the edition of the Washington Post of Thursday, July 20, along (with the interview comments of each of the mayors. Mayor Moffett was asked “What does a mayor of a town with a copulation of about 500 do? “Little towns are afraid of unions,” Mayor Moffett, answered. He is mayor of Washington, but won’t be for long—the town recently elected an allfemale slate, though Moffett was not a candidate. He is a “lawyer and a farmer,” and. as mayor; “You try to get the streets mowed off.”
