Five boys have been called by the draft board of the county to go for examinations. One volunteer reserve has received his notice.

This is heartbreak. Those boys have mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and kin, and their hearts are heavy.

For those with heartache, we sympathize.

For some others, who have a different outlook on war, we feel distrust, revulsion, and contempt. These are the hoarders.

Most of us blushed when the President of the United States had to remind the people that rationing would return only when it was demanded by those who greedily sought their own comforts and thought of no one else.

Tuesday an elderly woman went to a grocery. In her meager shopping she requested two pounds of sugar. The clerk had to stammer, stutter, apologize, and fell her there was none. Other customers bad purchased - in 1004b. (and more) lots. Somewhere those hogs who walk on two feet have sugar to waste, but that old lady hasn’t even sweetening for her morning cup of coffee.

That scene with the old lady and her no-pound sugar did not occur in Rappahannock county. We would like to say that it could not happen here, but iwe know in one form or another it probably haa happened. All we can hope is that anyone who must show hog tendencies will have the decency to hide it.
