Mrs. David Backe

Mrs. Cora McFarland Back* of Slate Mills died at Arlington hospital early Sunday, July 23, after an illness since last April. Funeral services were held Tuesday at2 o’clock from Geest Funeral Chapel on Sperryville Road, Culpeper. The Rev. E. H. L. Snellings, pastor of Slate Mills Baptist church, officiated. The church choir sang two hymns, with Miss Jacquelyn Kilby at the organ.

Mrs. Backe, 66, was the daughter of George Booton Burke and Mrs. Elizabeth Woodward Burke of Rappahannock.

She was married to the late Wade Jenkins of Rappahannock and from this marriage she leaves a daughter, Mrs. James H. Sisk of Arlington, and a son, Robert William Jenkins of Winchester. Later she was married to the late Thomas McFarland of Slate Mills and from this marriage she leaves four children, James William and Daniel Lee McFarland of Slate Mills and Mrs. Andrew Hawkins and Mrs. Milton Hawkins of Baltimore, Maryland. She is also survived by her husband, David Backe, of Culpeper; a sister, Mrs. Robert Jenkins, of Washington; and two brothers, Charlie Burke of Culpeper and Hezekiah Burke of Winchester.

Pallbearers were Sidney Cornwell, Raymond Cullen, Thomas Sisk, James Sisk, Jimmy Sisk, James Burke, and Carl Seabright. Those serving as flower girls were Pauline Jenkins, Catherine Jenkins, Margaret Jenkins, Annie May Fox, Mildred Seabright, and ^llie White. — ——7™

Interment was in the family section of Fairview cemetery.
