Hears Five Cases

Circuit Court iwas in session Monday and Tuesday, with Judge J. R. H. Alexander presiding.

On Monday Rev. S. Felton Carter, a minister of the Baptist religious denomination, qualified to celebrate. ritesk of marriage in the state of^Virginia.

Cases heard Monday were:

Commonwealth against Monroe Atkins for attempting to impede and intimidate a police officer in tiie execution of his duties. Jury: Maury W. Brown, L. R. Hudson, C. W. Frazier, Wilmer Jones, and Carson Lillard. Verdict, guilty; fined $50 and cost.

In a trial before the Court, Monroe Atkins, on assault and* battery charge in which his wife was prosecuting witness; sentence, six months and cost of suit. This was an appeal from Trial Justice decision in which Atkins was given 90 days.

In the case against Monroe Atkins for non-support, the Judge upheld the judgment of the JuVenils and Domestic Relations court - of 12 months oh the^road force.

Tuesday cases were:

Commonwealth against Carroll Racer, Jr., William Racer, and Luther Fincham, on charge of stoning the dwelling of Mrs. Edith. Foster. Upon hearing from Trial Justice court, they were sentenced to six months suspended on good behavior for one year,' and $25 fine each.

John A. Keyser, plaintiff, against John W. Habel and William Lamb, defendants. Jury: J. R. Nethera, J. Stanton Weaver, L. R. Hudson, Wilmer Jones, Carson Lillard, Elmer T. Jenkins, Lester Dodson; found in favor of plaintiff against defendants and fixed damages at $500.

Report To Army Camp

Clarence Miller Price, son of Mrs. J. W. Price, a member of the army reserve of the 780th yield Artillery- Battalion, with headquarters at Roanoke, has been alerted to report to camp August 14.

Mr. Price served for two years overseas in World War H. He received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from VPI June 10.
