James A. Estes _ presented, by his daughters, with a five-pound decorated birthday cake served with his favorite drink, lemonade, to the guests at the picnic. Miss Hazel Kesner of Newport News, and Mrs. Henry Huff trere special guests for the celebration.
At the picnic a prayer was offer, ed by his pastor, ReV. Norman J. Flythe, who also led the group in singing “Happy Birthday” which echoed a note of beauty and joy in the open air, with all hearts lifted to God in praise for such a long useful life.
Mr. Estes is in good spirits and is enjoying good health. His eyes twinkled with pleasure during the celebration.
Last week he enjoyed attending the Methodist revival services at Sperryville. When the weather is too bad for Mr. Estes to venture out, he spends his time quietly reading in his room at home. He enjoys good literature and delights in conversing with his many friends who come to visit him. |
Mi*. Estes’ long successful life may be attributed to his sound philosophy, "Pve tried to serve my Lord, raise my family, and tend to my own business."
