NEWS FOR VETERANS
Due to a flood of new applications for National Service Life Insurance, the Veterans Administration has expanded its insurance service. VA has announced that a new underwriting unit has been set up in the Philadelphia district office. In addition the underwriting service in the central office, Washington, D.C., will be expanded as far as office space and available personnel will permit.
The , new applications result (from the Korean conflict and th« stepped up rate of induction into the armed services, VA said, with thousands of new applications being received daily.
National Service Life Insur ance, it was stated, is available in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to any person entering active duty in the armed forces. Types of policies include low-premium term insurance as well as six permanent plans, including endowments.
Among the thousands of new applications reaching VA, many are incomplete, lacking either signatures, health statements or other essential information. VA (warned servicemen that applications can not be honored when they lack essential information! or are not signed 'by the applicant. The agency also warned new applicants to make sure that premiums due before the allotments from service pay become effective, are paid.
Unless these precautions are taken, the serviceman may find he is not covered by GI insurance, VA said, even though he authorized deductions from his pay to take care of the premiums.
