Hybrid Corn Certified
In Virginia This Year
A total of 1,643 acres of hybrid corn passed inspection for certification in Virginia this year, J. <}. Sanderson, seed certification agent at. V.P.I., has announced.
Sanderson said leading hybrids, in number of acres passed, were US. 857 A, U.S. 262 A, and U.S. 18.
tificatjpn for'the first time this year were U.S. 678, Ohio C 54, and Ind. 909.
A total of 18 hybrid varieties were passed.
Field inspections were made during the summer to see that the corn was properly detasseled, and, that fields were isolated to preyent cross-pollination and impure seed.
Leading producers among the 49 counties which grew hybrid, seed cam were King and Quean, Carolina, and Essex. There a total ef 152 growers.
