It is reported that the Commonwealth Attorney asked the visitors the next morning if they would like fried apples for breakfast, but the guests by that time either were not as interested in apples as they had been the night before or else their appetites had been spoiled. If there were any humor in the situation, they failed to see it.
It will give Rappahannock great pleasure to greet all such visitors in like manner. Too well it is remembered that some time back a bunch of unwelcome visitors got themselves into the habit'of backing trucks up to pastures and “borrowing” cattle. There are occasional instances of a few chickens being “borrowed" from chick' en houses, also.
All the county would enjoy seeing special reception committees greeting these “guests” who .choose the middle of the night to make their visits,
The folks of the county resemble many other parts of the country in their opinion of thieves; We all know the winking that goes on over government “thievery” but it is still known that there is nothing much more low-down and ’onery than night-prowling chicken or apple or cattle thieves.
