It set up a school for nurses in 1876 and has graduated hundreds of nurses and dietitians since.
It was the first hospital to* offer free smallpox vaccination to all people of the city of Philadelphia.
Since its pre-Revolutionary founding it has treated more than 2,200,0(H) patients, nearly twothirds of whom have paid little or nothing for the service.
