PMA Chairman Seeks
'More Corn In County
Rappahannock farmers are asked to produce more corn this year, whether it comes from more acreage or higher yields, or both.
The appeal is made by the Production and Marketing Administration through PMA County Chairman H. S. Barksdale in response to a nation-wide effort to bolster feed grain supplies. These supplies, which furnish the raw material for meat, dairy and poultry products, were 20 per cent smaller on April 1 than a yea? ago. The decline emphasized the need for big feed grain crops this year if high level production of livestock food products is to be maintained.
Corn is the principal feed grain and the only one not already seeded in Virginia. Mr. Barksdale noted that figures just released by the U. S. Department of Agriculture showed that Virginia Farm-, ers’ intentions as of mid-March were to plant 1,128,000 acres in corn. That would be only 96 per
