Haaker was breath-taking. He lead the orchestra through Beethoven melodies, in the merrymaking of the peasants, in the grandeur of the storm, in the peace of the Hymn of Thanksgiving. It was dUpurb.
Lovely Vienna life by Strauss was lovelier still as the leader expressed all the grace and poetry of motion.
We saw the Mardi Gras in the , streets of New Orleans as William Haaker lead the gay riotous crowds, his orchestra following as gay as he (Mississippi Suite— Crofe).
Music, so beautiful in its rustic setting by the “Old Mill! Stream” with the heaven-kissed mountains close about us, lifts us to the sublime. ' ‘I have dreamed a dream and it has come to pass.'
Mr. Haaker planned the most delightful and varied programs, each in itself a lesson in music appreciation. A small boy of four years, whose mother had explained each number, sat with a rapt expression on his face throughout the concert. It is a wonderful means of discovering talent.
Mr. Haaker’s charming and beautiful wife is his true helpmeet in all things.
