Two farm ponds have been completed recently on the ’ farm of Clarence Gough, “Echo Hill,” near Washington. The larger of 2 acres in area, adds much to the view from the homestead. The smaller Mi-acre pond may be Been from the driveway just after turning off U.S. Highway 2111 going into the farm. After filling with water both ponds will be stocked with the proper number and species of fish by the S.C.S. technicians working in cooperation with the Culpeper Soil Conservation.
Grant McColley, owner of a small farm in Culpeper County %near Arajissvilte, completed the construction of a 1 acre farm . pond this week. The McColley pond is located in a wooded /seotion on the farm and may be used for fire protection to the homestead and for recreational purposes. It will also be stocked with fish at a later date
Many fields that were once good cropland now have numerous wet areas in them due to old closed drainage systems becoming ineffective. Farm drainage is becoming a more and tionmore important soil conservation practice each year and farm-v ers are taking advantage of. the * technical service available ihrb-/ ugh the "Culpeper soil conservation district rendered by the Soil Conservation Service. ,
All open ditch drainage work that is dope in accordance with specifications qf the Production and Marketing Administration is eligible for payment at the rate of 12c per cubic yard. Each farmer may receive a maximum of $100 for drainage over and above their regular P.M.A. allotment. This means that financial assistance is available on farms of each landowner. Approximately 26 farmers have already taken advantage of the financial assistance available through the P.M.A. and the technical assistance of the Soil Conservation Service.
