WASHINGTON MAYOR LEADS PARADE
Washington's lady-mayor was in Charles Town, West Virginia, last evening to act as grand marshall of the Sesqnicentennial parade.
The mayor’s children were much upset when they first heard of the invitation. The only grand marshalls they had ever seen were of military style'and rode horaes. They were acutely conscious of the fact that their mother’s equestrian accomplishments were not up to such an occasion, and they did not want to be ashamed of her. Final persuasion got them settled when they found that Uie horse was not a required' means of transportation, and that a grand marshall can lead a parade by riding in a car.
According to Mrs. C. T. Bruce, the local bridge club had to forego its meeting this week. It seems it was Mrs. Davis’s turn to entertain and she “had to ride a horse’* in the parade on bridge club night.
Benefit Auction Sale
Proves Success
The ladies of the Auxiliary of Trinity church realized $126 on the antique auction, white elephant, and bake sale Saturday night, September 15.
Each member of the auxiliary had donated an antique to be auctioned and goblets, pewter tea sets, and vases were among the objects to go under D. D. Miller’s auctioneering hammer.
Sheriff Critzer out-bid all competitors and got the baby buggy. It is supposed that in his electioneering for November votes, that he plans to abolish the oldtime custom of kissing babies and give them a ride instead.

The Woman’s Society of Chirstian Service of Washington Methodist church met Thursday, September 12, with ’Mrs. Ora Ramey and Mrs. Lewis Payne. Eleven members and three visitors were present, Miss Fuss, Mrs. Addie Keyser, and Mrs. Virginia Cloud. The program, “Religion and Ecoho mi cs!” was led by Jllni. Grace. Reid. The worship service was led by Mrs. Kate Petty. After the meeting a social hour was enjoyed and refreshments were “ served by the hostesses.

An all-day service will be held Sunday, September 23, at Massanova Free Pentecostal church, bjegimning at 10 o’clpck. Miss Rosalie Addlesberger will be present for- the afternoon and evening services. She has been in evangelistic work and radio for many years.
