Campaign Started
There has been a big commotion in the town of Washington for the past several weeks but most of the smoke has been coming from burning leaves and trash. Yards are being raked, grass mowed and premises generally slicked up for Friday, April 25, the final day of the Second Annual Clean-Up Campaign. This activity combines the regular spring cleaning with preparation for Virginia's Historic Garden Week starting Saturday."
The Town Council, again this year, sent a letter to each business, and organization connected with the town soliciting their cooperation and help in the success of this
program and asking them to take improvement project.
A* prize of $5 will be given to the individual or organization who has made the biggest improvement in the last several weeks according to the opinion of anonymous local judge. This decision will be announced in the next edition of the Rappahannock News.
The Virginia Forest Service has donated a sign reading, “Keep Virginia Green and Washington Clean,” new parking signs will be erected at the fire house and theatre, yellow no parking zones; will be given a fresh coat of paint and new zones will be marked off at the Post Office on Jett Street to be effective from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the corner of Main and Middle Streets to make traffic at the blinker light less congested.
Three new park benches have been ordered, three red maple trees will be planted along the highway to give shade to the playground and the entrance signs have been taken down to be given a special improvement project.
