I. N. Dovel Company, of Luray, is interested in contracting with farmers of the Sperryville, Woodvflle, ‘T. T.” communities to grow: snaps at $3.75 per 150 lb. for tender green beans. Mr. Dovel wiH meet with any interested parties at Sperryville school at 8:00 p.m. tonight.
In discussing costs etc., with Mr. Dovel recently he advised normal average yields might be figured to be 175 bushels per acre (30 lb. bu. @ $1.15 and a gross, of $200.00 per acre). Seed bed/ preparation, planting and harvesting was estimated to cost around $100.00 per acre. They will do the spraying at cost and if ncessary arrange for hauling at 2J-3c per bushel to Luray.
I. N. Dovel Company is packing gallon size cans this year and will need appoximately 25,000 bushels more of beans and, of course, must get acreage where help will be available to do the picking. Thus the amount of family or reliable labor to your fttrm is a major factor to consider.
