Webster is a new apple, as apples go. But for all that, it made its formal debut in 1938. Its color is a vibrant red and it is pretty as a picture. It is big, but doesn’t ryn so big that- is is unhandy when sliced, 'another little feature important to the processors.

Its flesh is firm, texture good, flavor on the sweet side, somewhat like a Baldwin and not so tart as a Spy. It’s an apple for late Fall and early Winter apple in its native state. It is a second generation cross of Ben Davis and Jonathan, which means that it has as parents two “sister” seedlings of a Ben Davis and Jonathan cross. —Rochester (N-Y.) Times-Union

Horticulturist To Inspect

Local Orchards

For the past two years the Rap. pahannock Horticultural Commit* tee has included in its ‘annual goals’ a request that the Extension Horticulturist visit certain apple orchards in the county for the purpose of seeing just what was ‘going on’, advising with the orchardist, and then reporting at an evening meeting on the findings and control measures recommended. Of course the ultimate aim was and is more timely application -of spray material properly prepared and applied.
