Win Third in State Judging
Contest
The Future Farmers of America held their annual Convention at VPI, Blacksburg, Virginia, June 16-19. Boys representing PFA Chapters from high schools all over the State were present.
Included in the programs were such activities as dairy judging, poultry judging and baseball. Awards were given for outstanding work accomplished in forestry, electricity, public speaking, soil and water management, farm mechanics and farm safety program. The boys winning these .awards had made exceptional outstanding records in order to achieve this recognition.
The boys heard addresses by such noted men as Hon. John S. Battle, Governor of Virginia; Dr. Walter S. Newsman, President of VPI, Dallas High, National Vice-President of FFA and others.
J.T. Dwyer, Kelly Updike, Nelson Williams represented the Rappahannock FFA and participated in the livestock judging. These boys made an excellent showing by placing third high team, in the State. Included in the contest were judging classes of beef animals, hogs, sheep, fat beef, animals for grading and identification of dressed carcass cuts of meat. North River Chapter and Rural Retreat won first and second place. The high team will represent the State FFA association at * the National Convention held in Kansas City this fall.
