HOW CAN ROCK PHOSPHATE BE USED BEST. .<.?????
On the basis of experiments conducted in Virginia and elsewhere, the value of rock phosphate as a fertilizer may be summarized as follows:
Superphosphate is superior to rock phosphate in practically all cases.
Rock phosphate is not suitable where a lot of phosphorus is needed immediately."
You can expect satisfactory results from rock phosphate only if you use it in large amounts (1,000 to 2,000 pounds per acre), and if you use it to build up permanently the phosphorus content of the soil for longtime usage.
Rock phosphate .gives' .better, results when you mix it thoroughly, with the siol rather than when you apply it in bands.
Rock phosphate gives better results in acid soils than on well-limed soils
Rock phosphate gives better results in a rotated cropping system which includes legumes. Certain legumes like alfalfa and clovers are able to use rock phosphate more effectively than do other crops.
Where you. use rock phoshate on soils low in phosphate, sitpplpmpnt it • with superphosphate until the soil has reached adequate phosphorus.
Replies are still coming in from farmers reporting whether or not they have heifers to be vaccinated against Brucellosis (Bang’s disease.) Since last Monday eighty-nine more farmers have been heard from making a total of 168 who have sent in replies. Of this number, one hundred fourteen report no heifer calves being kept while the remaining 54 have requested that 275 heifers to be vaccinated with several indicating they expect to have more heifers of vaccinting age (4-8 months) by November when the second vaccination program is to be scheduled.
Those of you who* haven’t reported, please do so at once because schedules must l>e made up next week.
