However, there are many citizens who did not realize that all public offices are public property (except of course, tax reports which fall in the line of personal acounts), and any citizen may satisfy his interest by examining clerk’s records. -
Like all figures, there can be misinterpretations. As the old fellow said*: “Figures don’t lie, but liars figure." Some salaries will appear much larger than others, • since the salaries of some officers are supplemented by fees, while salaries of others are not.
This interest in salaries of public oficers seems to follow the trend of the day, when the average citizen is beginning to take more interest in public offices, in the nation, in the state, and, naturally, down to the county and city level.
