AUXILIARY MEETING
The Amissville Ladies Auxiliary will hold their regular monthly meeting, Tuesday, March 9, at 8 o’clock in the Fire House.
James O. Jones
James O. Jones died March 1 at his home in Gid Brown Hollow. Mr. Jones, 86 years of age, had been in declining health for several years. He is survived by one brother, John A. Jones; one granddaughter; and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Jones and his brother have made their home together for a longperiod of years. *The funeral services were held in the Oakley Baptist Church, Wednesday, March 3, with his pastor, Rev. A. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment was in the family cemetery at Smedley.
Sphinx Sororiety Pledges Miss Gloria Thach r—
Miss Gloria Harrell Thach, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Harold Thach, by the Sphink Sororiety of Roanoke Flint Hill, has recently been pledged College.. Miss Thach, a freshm&n at Roanoke, is a graduate of Laurenceville High School in Laurenceville. She is active in various clubs and organizations at Roanoke College, including the college’s basketball team.
Local Red Cross Sets
$1120 Goal For ’54
Setting a $1120 quota an a membership drive of 600, the Red Cross County chairmen begin their 1954 Red Cross Drive. In a meeting Thursday night the chairmen discussed plans for the extensive drive which shall be carried to every citizen in Rappahannock County.
The following persons have been selected to represent their respective districts:
Wakefield District, Mrs. M. R. Bradford, Jr.;- Hampton District, Mrs. Frances Baggarly; Piedmont District, Miss Louise Schwartz; Hawthorne District, Mrs. John Davis; Stonewall District, Miss Nellie Johnson; Slate Mills, Miss Lizzie Miller; Jackson District, Mrs. L. B. Stuart. The colored district chairmen are: Wakefield District, Mrs. B<etty Lewis; Hampton District, Mrs. Madeline Deering; Piedmont District, Mrs. Pauline J. Williams; Stonewall District, Mrs. Maude Williams; Jackson District, Mrs. Irma Lawson; Hawthorne District, Mrs. Lessie Fincham.
