Washington Reports 2.02 Inches Rainfall
Ruby Jenkins, U. S. Rainfall Observer for Rappahannock County, reports that 2.02 inches of rain fell in the town of Washington, Virginia, from Sunday 7:30 p.m. until 1:30 p. m. on Monday, March 1. This was equilvant to 54,424 gallons of water, - on an acre of land. Farmers in the county welcomed the rain especially when records reveal that in January 1954 we bad 1.41 inches less rain than in /anuary 1953 and .93 inches below normal and .83 inphes less in February than in 1953 and 1.60 inches below normal.
Trial Justice Cases
In Trial Justice court last week, Bryant Alfonso Fletcher was charged with perjury and with procuring a witness for perjury. James Arthur Freeman was charged with perjury. A preliminary hearing was waived by the defendants and the case was sent to grand jury.
In the case of the Commonwealth versus Earnest Lillard, charged with reckless driving, Lillard was fined $10 and costs.
Alfred Lee Seal was fined $35 and costs for driving with no operator’s license, and for operating a motor vehicle over the highway before permit had been restored after being revoked. Further charged with failure to appear in court after being duly summoned in writing by a State Police Officer, Seal was ordered to pay a $5 (and cost) fine.
