W.S.C.S. DUcuues Work In Rural Areas
The Woman's Society of Christian Service met with Mrs. Paul Miller, Thursday, February 25 at 7:30. “The Methodist Church Helping Rural Negroes’’ was the topic discussed by the group in their meeting. Among those taking part were Mrs. Frank Cary, Mrs. Barbara Gentry, Mrs. M. R. Bradford, Sr., and Mrs. Robert Clatterbuck. Others attending the program were Mrs. Carson Lillard, Mrs. Harold Thach, Mrs. Paul Miller and Mrs. C. G. Reid.
Mrs. Hal] - Godmother
Mrs. W. C. Hall of Rose Hill stood as godmother for her great niece at baptismal services at eleven o’clock Sunday morning in the St. Paul's Church of New Market. Mr. and Mrs. Hall and daughter, Mrs. V. Keealun and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Hall's nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Percy. *
Recipe of the Week
Mrs. H. T. Updike contributes the recipe for an Apple Sauce Spice Cake: 4 eggs 2 cups sugar 1 cup butter 1J qups apple sauce 1 i teaspoons nutmeg 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon soda 3 cups flour
Beat eggs and add sugar; then add the shortening and the apple sauce. Measure flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and soda; sift these four together. Add these dry ingredients to the egg mixture. Cook at 350° F for 1 hour.
