Wind Fans Spark; Duncan Property Burned
A spark from several brush fires, burned Wednesday night, ignited and was blown by the high wind Thursday evening to the neighboring property of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Duncan in Amissville causing considerable damage to several fields. The Amissville Fire Company was on hand in a matter of minutes, and-with the help of neighbors who got ahead of the fire, it was halted before reaching the nearby woods. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan wish to thank the Amissville Fire Company for their prompt arrival and also numerous friends who came to their aid. (Though the fire was stopped before extensive damage could be caused, the potential power unleahed in the flames brought home to the .firefighters the danger of carelessness with brush fires.)'*
Hawthorne District Leads In Red Cross Drive With a total of $234.62 contributed in the initial half of the annual Red Cross Drive in Rappahannock County we are far below die goal of $1,120. Hawthorne District strides ahead with a reported total of $132>25, while the other distrits line up: Piedmont, $44.12; Wakefield District. $25.25; Jackson, $20; Stonewall, $11; and Hampton, $2.
