Among the other facts brought out in the study, the Superintendent reported: Three-fourths of the aged on the rolls are able to care for themselves ■ the other fourth are bedridden, or require considerable care from others because of physical or mental impairments ; More than eighty per cent of the total are over seventy years old; Two thirds of them are women; iSixty per cent are white;

More than half live in their own homes (this means that the recipient has primary responsibility for managing the home, rather than ownership, the Superintendent explained);

Of all die groups studied, Mrs. Buntin said, those living in cities in non-metropolitan areas (10,000-49,999 population) fared best. Their requirements were the third highest, their income highest, their old age assistance payments third highest and their unmet need the lowest of all groups.
