Swain) Virginia’s 1954 General Assemblytagged at various times during the session as “do-nothing” or “hard" working” body—set some sort of record in its closing weekend with a 36-hour final "day” and a compromise victory for the “Young Turk” Boothe amendment to the appropriations bill. After long hours of deadlock, and at almost the time that both houses appeared ready to give up and adjourn until March 31 without passing a budget bill, the settlement and adjournment came in three vote-filled minutes.
