Of Shiloh Baptist
To Meet August 10,11
The One Hundred: Sixty-First Annual Session of the Shiloh Baptist Association will meet with the Barboursville Baptist Church, Barboursville, Wednesday and Thursday, August 10 and II4 This association comprises Southern Baptist churches, in Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison, and Greene counties and includes 2 churches in Orange County. There are 38 churches with a total membership of over 6,500.
Highlighting the first day’s program will be 2 missionary addresses and the annual sermon. The Reverend E. M. Bostick, Jr., a retired foreign missionary, who served in China, will give the address on foreign missions. (Mr. Bostick now makes his home in Richmond.) A second address will be given by the Reverend L. R. Baumgartner, missionary of the Indian Mission Church at Cherokee. N. C. The annual sermon, given each year by an inspiring speaker, will be delivered by the Reverend Leslie Napier.
On Thursday, "The Work of Virginia Baptists” will be discussed by Dr., R. F. Caverlee, minister of the Fredericksburg Baptist Church ahd president of the Virginia Baptist General Association.
A report on the Baptist World Alliance will be made by the moderator, the Reverend William R. Snead of Stevensburg, and the Reverend H. R. Carlton, secretary will report on Eagle Eyrie.
F. L. White of Culpeper, clerk of the association for 20 years, will ’serve as clerk for this 161st session.
In the afternoon Thursday the Reverend Robert Thompson of Vernon Hill will discuss the rural church and the denomination. These addresses will be in addition to the regular reports. The session begins each day at 10 o’clock and adjourns at 2:30 or 2:35. -
